Tilapia

Tilapia is a tropical freshwater fish that has become very popular due to it being easy to farm and is easily adapted to different environments. It has a deep, short body with long dorsal fins and spines. Shapes and colorations vary widely among the various species and the most common farmed Tilapia is Black or Nile Tilapia.

Scientific Name: Tilapia mossambica

Market Name: St Peter’s Fish, Black Tilapia, Nile Tilapia

Tilapia has mild sweet flesh when cooked although it can be somewhat bland. It therefore lends itself to using with sauces and seasonings and is ideal for fish curries and various ethnic dishes. See our Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa recipe for a great way to serve this lovely fish.
